Eluru: Ensuring punishment to offenders

Eluru: A special interaction session with victims of various cases was organised here on Friday under the initiative of the Court Monitoring Cell established by Eluru District Police. The programme was attended by Eluru Range Inspector General of Police (IGP) GVG Ashok Kumar as guest of honour and Eluru SP K Prathap Shiva Kishore as the chief guest.
Addressing the gathering, SP Prathap Shiva Kishore stated that while society often extends support to the powerful, it is the police who stand by the vulnerable and ensure justice for victims. He emphasised that the reputation and credibility of the police force increase when justice is delivered effectively. He explained that the judiciary functions on the principle that even if ten guilty persons escape, one innocent person should not be punished. He further stated that the blindfold on the statue of Lady Justice reflects impartiality, ensuring that justice is delivered without discrimination based on caste, religion, status, or personal bias. He noted that if criminals escape punishment, it adversely affects law and order and public confidence.
Through systematic monitoring and coordination between the police and prosecution departments, the Court Monitoring Cell has successfully secured convictions in 62 cases involving 74 accused persons, he said. During the programme, victims who received justice through successful prosecution interacted with the IGP, SP, Public Prosecutors, and Additional Public Prosecutors.
Officials explained how close coordination between the police department and prosecution wing helped secure convictions and ensure justice for victims. Retired SP Nakka Suryachandra Rao appreciated the achievements of the Court Monitoring Cell, stating that securing convictions in 62 cases within a relatively short period reflects the commitment and leadership of the district SP.
