Srikakulam is transforming into a logistics hub: Kinjarapu

Visakhapatnam: Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu said that Srikakulam district is rapidly transforming into a logistics hub, driven by major infrastructure upgrades and improved connectivity. Laying the foundation stone for the construction of a crucial culvert near Peddapadu national highway connecting Chennai and Kolkata in the presence of MLA Gondu Shankar, the Union Minister directed officials to complete the project in two months.
The Civil Aviation Minister emphasised that the absence of the culvert had caused recurring hardships for residents and business establishments, particularly during the rainy season. He stated that sustained efforts had been made to address the issue permanently rather than offering temporary relief. He assured that the project, taken up at a cost of Rs.4.64 crore, would provide a lasting solution for the residents in the area.
Highlighting the district’s development plan, Ram Mohan Naidu recalled that during the tenure of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, his late father Yerran Naidu, had played a key role in bringing the four-lane golden quadrilateral project to the region, which significantly boosted connectivity and growth.
Building on that foundation, Ram Mohan Naidu announced that the existing four-lane national highway is being upgraded to a six-lane corridor. While expansion up to Narasannapeta has been completed, he assured that the stretch from Narasannapeta to Ichchapuram would also be expanded in the future.
Ram Mohan Naidu further noted that pedestrian safety and accessibility are prioritised, with foot over bridges already constructed near Gurajada College—a rare feature on national highways.
He announced that similar facilities, along with ramps to ensure inclusivity, will soon be established at five additional locations across the district.
Catering to urban infrastructure needs, Ram Mohan Naidu stated that the requirement for a flyover at the Nava Bharat junction has been communicated to Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, and he expressed confidence that funds would be sanctioned soon for the project.
He also assured that key intersections in Srikakulam city would be modernised and beautified to enhance the city’s appeal and create a positive impression among visitors and tourists.
The Civil Aviation Minister stated that improved port connectivity, strengthened transport networks and future aviation facilities would position Srikakulam as a major logistics hub, attracting industries and fostering IT sector growth in the region. District Collector Swapnil Dinkar Pundkar, NHAI officials, public representatives, and local residents were present.
