VPA celebrates 63rd ‘National Maritime Day – 2026’

Visakhapatnam: Highlightingthe vital role of the maritime sector in global trade and national economic development, Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) celebrated the 63rd ‘National Maritime Day’ on April 5th (Sunday) with the theme focusing on ‘maritime India—empowering progress’. Recognising lifetime achievements in the Indian maritime industry and honouring the remarkable contributions of seafarers, the NMD Award of Excellence was presented on the occasion.
VPA chairperson M Angamuthu and deputy chairperson Roshni Aparanji Korati along with heads of various departments laid a wreath in solemn remembrance of the sacrifices made by seafarers. A ceremonial guard of honour was presented by the VPA tug flotilla. Arun Prasad, chief vigilance officer and Rajesh Mittal, DIG, Indian Coast Guard, also paid rich tributes to the seafarers on the occasion.
As part of the celebrations, essay writing and elocution competitions were organised for school children and winners were felicitated with prizes. Additionally, letters of appreciation were awarded to officers and staff of the marine department in recognition of their exceptional service and dedication.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from port officials, senior officers, employees and students from various schools.
