Addmotor has introduced the U-Trike U-750, a dual-mode tilting electric trike designed to deliver enhanced stability, comfort, and two-wheel-like maneuverability for urban commuting and recreational riding.

Addmotor, a manufacturer of electric bike solutions, has released the full technical specifications and formally introduced the U-Trike U-750. The model marks a clear break from the rigid-frame layouts that have long dominated the electric tricycle segment. By incorporating an advanced central-pivot tilting mechanism, the U-750—recognized as the brand’s first tilting e-trike—directly addresses the long-standing “Stability–Agility Paradox,” where traditional three-wheel stability often comes at the expense of intuitive, responsive handling.

Kinematic Engineering: Mastering the Pivot Joint

At the technical core of the U-Trike U-750 Tilting eTrike is a high-precision pivot joint trike architecture that fundamentally alters the vehicle's structural interaction with the road. In a standard rigid electric trike for adults, the frame and all three wheels remain locked on a single vertical plane. When navigating a turn at velocity, the laws of physics exert an outward centrifugal force, which often threatens to lift the inner wheel or even cause the vehicle to tip—a primary safety limitation of non-tilting platforms.

The U-750 redefines this dynamic through a central pivot steering trike mechanism located at the junction of the front steering assembly and the rear drive module. This pivot allows the rider to lean the body and the front section of the vehicle into a turn while the two rear tires remain level and firmly planted on the ground. By leaning into the corner—a technique known in engineering as "leaning"—the rider effectively cancels out centrifugal force.

According to the company's engineering guidelines: Pivoting = Leaning Freedom + 3-Wheel Stability. The way this tricycle tilts makes it easy to navigate rough terrain or tight turns because it mimics how you would use a standard bike or motorcycle while keeping the weight of your body toward the center to ensure maximum traction and stability. Because of this, the U-750 operates as both a safe electric tricycle and as a way to create increased stability when executing aggressive maneuvers and cornering at higher speeds.

Dual-Mode Riding Dynamics: Fixed Mode & Tilting Mode

The U-750 is designed to accommodate riders of all types from the elderly who want security and safety, to active explorers who seek agility; to that end, the U-750 has a dual-mode operating system with two primary operating modes.*

  1. Fixed Mode (Stability-Oriented): When in fixed mode, the U-750 operates as a standard rigid tricycle. The rider has a stable and upright position on the trike and does not have to have any type of balance skills; therefore, this mode is generally for seniors, first-time users, and riders who are looking for the highest stability with minimal speed while running errands around town or when hauling a considerable amount of cargo.
  2. Tilting Mode (Performance-Oriented): When the pivot joint is disengaged, the chassis is free to move from side to side, and the U-750 becomes a lean-to-steer trike. This allows a more agile and fluid performance that is similar to riding a two-wheeler for active users who have preferable mobility. With both designs combined, the U-750 transitions with the rider as they move from beginner to advanced user in terms of keeping both designs, with the lower fixed operating mode being the most stable to the upper tilting operating mode having the most freedom whilst riding.

The Fat Tire Advantage: Physics of Leaning Stability

A key engineering decision in the U-750’s development is its fat-tire electric trike platform. While many European-style leaning trikes use thin tires to reduce weight, Addmotor identified that such setups can feel “twitchy,” leaning too quickly for non-professional riders.

The U-750 has identical 20" x 4.0" tires on both front & back, providing a larger footprint/contact area and more friction/grip between the ground and tire; therefore, increasing resistance when leaning helps to slow down the rider's ability to lean. These two factors combine to create a smoother (less abrupt), more predictable (easier to judge), and easier to control the motion when leaning.

The combination of these two factors is supplemented by the Addshox oil-spring suspension fork system (with 80mm of travel) and thus provides a second level of damping to assist with maintaining a stable leaning ability, therefore enhancing performance on gravel, sand and poorly paved city streets without affecting the stability of the rhythmic, balanced movement of the trike.

Electronic Architecture: EB 2.0 and Torque Sensing

The U-750 features the Addmotor EB 2.0 electronic system and a rear hub motor that generates a great amount of torque (48V 750W) with the addition of a high precision torque sensor, which sets it apart from cadence based systems, which rely upon a cadence of pedal rotation speed. The torque sensor provides input to measure how much mechanical force is being applied to the pedals, in real time, whereas cadence sensors only measure the rotational speed of the pedals.

The reason the high precision torque sensor is necessary for a tilt steering electric tricycle is because it provides smooth proportional assistance from the motor while maintaining balance during high angle turns.

The energy source for the U-750 is a UL-2271 certified (i.e., approved by Underwriters Laboratories as safe to use as a power source) Samsung battery pack that provides 48V of electricity at 20Ah (amp hours) to the entire tricycle. The distance travelled on one battery charge ranges from 40 to 85 miles, depending upon the weight of the rider(s) and other conditions. The battery packs have been designed to meet very stringent standards for thermal and electrical safety.

Urban Utility and Structural Specifications

With a frame made from solid reinforced 6061 aluminum alloy, the U-750 is a designated urban cargo trike that can carry up to 450 lbs of total payload (350 lbs rider + 100 lbs in rear basket). To keep it safe, the U-750 features a three mechanical disc brake system where each wheel has its own brake for precise stopping power.

Another important feature is the integrated parking brake, which locks the vertical frame while the U-750 is stationary. This prevents the trike from rolling away or tilting over unexpectedly while parked on an incline. The visibility of the trike is achieved through the EB 2.0 5-in-1 tail-lighting system, which includes brake light, turn signal and hazard light all in one tail-light visible from 180°.
