Airtel net profit rises 37.3% to Rs 8,167 cr

Bharti Airtel reports a 37.3% rise in profit after tax to ₹8,167 crore for the June quarter, driven by an 18.3% increase in operating revenue, rising ARPU, and strong subscriber additions in India and Africa.

New Delhi: Bharti Airtel reported a 37.3 per cent increase in profit after tax to Rs 8,167 crore in the June quarter, driven by strong growth across India and Africa operations, the company said on Tuesday.

Bharti Airtel had posted a net profit of Rs 5,948 crore attributable to the owners in the year-ago period.

Revenue from operations during the quarter increased 18.3 per cent to Rs 58,539 crore from Rs 49,462.6 crore in the June quarter

a year ago.

"Bharti Airtel reported consolidated quarterly revenues of Rs 58,539 crore, up 18.4 per cent year-on-year, and 5.7 per cent quarter-on-quarter, supported by strong growth across India and Africa operations," the company statement said.

The telco recorded 12.5 per cent year-over-year (YoY) growth in customer base to 60.5 crore. Its subscriber base in India grew by 12.8 per cent to 43.6 crore.

Airtel India’s average revenue per user (ARPU) increased by 5.6 per cent to Rs 264 during the reported quarter compared to Rs 250 a year ago. Revenues increased by 9.7 per cent to Rs 41,214 crore, driven by sustained portfolio premiumisation in mobile and strong momentum in Homes and Airtel Business, the company said.

“India Mobile achieved sequential growth of 3.8 per cent, driven by continued portfolio mix improvement. Our postpaid strategy continues to deliver strong outcomes with the highest-ever customer additions of 1 million. We added 5 million smartphone customers with an industry-leading ARPU of Rs 264,” Bharti Airtel executive vice chairman, Gopal Vittal, said.

India Mobile revenue grew 9.2 per cent YoY, supported by strong customer additions and an improvement in ARPU.

“Focus on stronger portfolios led to strong net additions in the postpaid segment. We recorded the highest ever quarterly postpaid customer additions of 1 million, thereby reaching a customer base of 30 million. The smartphone data customer base grew by 21.1 million over the past year, marking a 7.5 per cent YoY increase,” Airtel said.
