CBFC rejects ‘Jana Nayagan’ leak allegations, calls claims false

According to the statement, the Digital Cinema Package (DCP) of “Jana Nayagan” was handed over to the applicant in Mumbai on March 17 with due acknowledgement and has remained in their possession since.
Mumbai: The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) on Sunday dismissed allegations linking it to the leak of the much-anticipated Tamil film Jana Nayagan, terming the claims as “baseless and false”.
In an official clarification issued via the Press Information Bureau (PIB) Maharashtra handle, the CBFC stated that reports suggesting the film was leaked from its office were incorrect and misleading.
The board further explained that the digital print of the film had already been returned to the makers last month. It noted that access to the film remains password-protected, with the Key Delivery Message (KDM) held exclusively by the producer or filmmaker. Without a valid KDM, the content cannot be accessed or screened.
According to the statement, the Digital Cinema Package (DCP) of “Jana Nayagan” was handed over to the applicant in Mumbai on March 17 with due acknowledgement and has remained in their possession since.
The clarification comes after several scenes from the film surfaced online, sparking widespread concern over piracy. The project had already faced delays due to reported disagreements with the CBFC prior to certification.
Following the leak, prominent film personalities including Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Rishab Shetty, and Vijay Deverakonda condemned the circulation of pirated content and extended support to the film’s team and lead actor Vijay Thalapathy.
Production house KVN Productions also issued a strong warning, stating that the illegal downloading, sharing, or distribution of leaked footage constitutes a criminal offence and a violation of copyright laws. The makers urged the public to refrain from engaging with such content and to support ethical viewing practices.
