Mumbai: Renowned music composer Lalit Pandit fondly reminisced about his experiences working with legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle, describing her as a perfectionist who preferred to sing on her own terms and disliked interruptions during recordings.

In an exclusive interaction, Lalit Pandit, one half of the celebrated composer duo Jatin–Lalit, shared that while recording songs, Asha Bhosle would initially follow the composers’ instructions but later deliver the song entirely in her own distinctive style. He said that unlike many singers who required constant direction, she preferred to complete the song in one uninterrupted flow, resulting in near-perfect takes with minimal need for retakes.

Pandit recalled that she would often ask the composers if they were satisfied after singing according to their guidance, before requesting them not to interrupt her as she rendered the full song her way. He added that her expressions were spontaneous and natural, which made her performances exceptional and effortless.

Describing her personality, Pandit called Asha Bhosle a lively and spirited individual with a mischievous streak. He said she brought warmth and energy into the studio, often engaging in conversations and rehearsing diligently before recordings. According to him, recording days were entirely dedicated to her sessions, which were both productive and enjoyable.

He further shared that beyond work, they spent memorable moments together, often chatting, revisiting songs, and sharing meals during recording schedules. Pandit expressed gratitude for having collaborated extensively with the legendary singer, noting that she had lent her voice to several of their projects, including their debut film Khiladi and other notable works such as Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya and Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, where she sang the popular track “Zara Sa Jhoom Loon Main.”

Expressing sorrow over her demise, Pandit said her passing marked a great loss to the music world, adding that her legacy would live on through her timeless songs. He emphasised that her contribution to the industry was unparalleled and that her music should continue to be celebrated for generations to come.
