The recent Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (PCS) examination has sparked discussion across the state after the name of renowned Bareilly-based social activist Farmaan Hasan Khan, popularly known as Farmaan Mian, appeared in the question paper alongside Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other prominent personalities.

The reference appeared in a General Studies question related to Egypt’s highest civilian honor, the “Order of the Nile.” Candidates across multiple examination centres reportedly took note of the unusual inclusion, with many discussing it after the test.

The presence of a regional social figure among options that included nationally and internationally recognized names has drawn attention, particularly among students and educators in Uttar Pradesh. In competitive examinations, such inclusions are relatively rare, making the question a point of wider curiosity.

This is not the first time Farmaan Hasan Khan’s name has featured in a state-level examination. Earlier, a question in an examination conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UPSSSC) had also referenced him. The question, linked to the “Bharat Gaurav Ratna” award conferred in May 2023, included his name among options alongside cricketer Suresh Raina, political figure Yogendra Yadav, and actor Amitabh Bachchan.

Education experts note that Farmaan Mian’s name has increasingly appeared in current affairs compilations and study material prepared by coaching institutes across Uttar Pradesh. Background and Public Role

Farmaan Hasan Khan, born on August 8, 1995, is a resident of Bareilly and a graduate of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University. He is actively engaged in social and religious initiatives within the region.

He currently serves as the National General Secretary of Jamaat Raza-e-Mustafa, an organization established in 1920, and is also the founder of the Aala Hazrat Tajushshariah Welfare Society, which works for the welfare of underprivileged communities.

He is also associated with the family of Aala Hazrat Imam Ahmad Raza Khan Barelvi, being the son-in-law of Chief Islamic Justice of India Mufti Asjad Raza Khan.
