Article 371(J) driving Kalyana K’taka growth: Khandre

Bidar: Karnataka Forest, Ecology and Environment Minister Eshwar B Khandre stated that the implementation of Article 371(J) has placed the Kalyana Karnataka region on a path of steady development.
He was speaking at the valedictory function of the two-day 40th State Journalists’ Conference held at Jeera Convention Hall in Bidar. The minister emphasised the role of media in supporting regional development by offering constructive suggestions.
Highlighting the importance of press freedom, Khandre said media operates on the foundation of freedom of expression and urged journalists to avoid spreading unverified or misleading news in the race to break stories first. He emphasized that credibility remains the backbone of journalism.
“The media plays a crucial role in shaping public opinion. Journalists face multiple challenges, and the government will respond to ensure protection for those working under difficult conditions,” he said.
Recalling earlier times, he noted that allegations of corruption published in newspapers once carried serious consequences for public officials, adding that the media must strive to regain that level of trust and accountability.
Calling media the “fourth pillar of democracy,” Khandre also acknowledged its contribution toward environmental awareness and conservation efforts in the state.
He expressed satisfaction over the success of various sessions held during the conference, where discussions focused on the development of Kalyana Karnataka, media responsibilities, and issues affecting border regions.
During the event, Khandre, who also served as chairman of the reception committee, was felicitated by the Karnataka Union of Working Journalists.
