Kalaburagi: The Congress party in Kalaburagi is witnessing a fresh wave of infighting, as a group led by former minister Malikayya Guttedar has accused Afzalpur MLA M. Y. Patil and his son Arun Kumar Patil of running the constituency with bias and favoritism.

Speaking to reporters, Guttedar launched a scathing attack, alleging that governance in the constituency has been reduced to “family control.” He claimed that the MLA has entrusted most responsibilities to his son, leading to widespread dissatisfaction among party workers.

“There is complete disregard for senior leaders and loyal workers. Decisions are being taken unilaterally, and only a select group is being favoured,” he said.

Highlighting irregularities, he pointed out that cooperative institutions and committees have been dominated by members of a particular community. “This is not inclusive governance. It is selective empowerment,” he remarked.

The faction also raised allegations of corruption in housing schemes, claiming that beneficiaries are being forced to pay bribes. “People have approached us with complaints of paying ₹20,000 to ₹30,000 for house allotments. We have taken the matter to officials, but no action has followed,” he said.

Expressing frustration over administrative functioning, Guttedar added, “Even officers are not listening to us. Development works are being outsourced, and there is no accountability despite poor quality execution.”

Making it clear that the issue would be taken further, he said, “We will approach the party high command. Leaders like Randeep Singh Surjewala, D. K. Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah will be informed about the ground reality.”

J.M. Korabu alleged that despite supporting the MLA during elections, he has been sidelined. Makbool Patel questioned the political appointments being made, stating that they contradict the party’s principles.

The public airing of grievances has exposed deep cracks within the district Congress unit. Political observers believe that unless the leadership intervenes quickly, the internal conflict could impact the party’s prospects in the region.

The coming days are likely to see intensified lobbying and counter-allegations, as both factions attempt to assert their influence within the party structure.
