Why you should not see the moon on Ganesh Chaturthi: The story behind it
One of the better-known traditions associated with Ganesh Chaturthi is the belief that devotees should avoid looking at the Moon during the Chaturthi tithi.
According to Hindu tradition, seeing the Moon on this day is believed to invite false accusations or unwarranted blame. The belief is connected to the story of Lord Ganesha and Chandra, the Moon God. Chandra once laughed at Ganesha's appearance.
Angered by the disrespect, Lord Ganesha placed a curse associated with seeing the Moon on Chaturthi. Chandra later realised his mistake and sought forgiveness.
Ganesha eventually reduced the severity of the curse, but the tradition of avoiding moon sighting on Ganesh Chaturthi continued.
