Amaravati is now the new capital city

Finally the Lok Sabha passed the bill relating to AP capital on Wednesday. It was easily accomplished as the opposition extended unconditional support to it. Earlier it was passed by the AP Assembly and sent to the Centre even without got it passed by AP legislative council. In fact the bill is first of its kind as any other state has not adopted this procedure to make capital city of their respective state.

The bill is aimed at to amend AP State Reorganisation Act 2014 especially section 5(1) to replace capital city with Amaravati, though the people who support Amaravati as the capital of AP, are ignoring its cost. As per rough estimation it requires about ₹ 2 lakh crore, is it possible for the state which is borrowing even to pay salaries and pensions ?

Of course one may call it people’s capital or Green Capital or sole capital. But such nomenclature can bring money. Further it is very difficult to develop a wide range of area in near future . The people who are very particular about Amaravati should think of other areas in the state and needs of people of entire state.

Utter disregard for democratic process

With reference to the news report ‘Niloufer class IV staff sent for voter enumeration’, it is absolute disrespect and an irresponsible way of handling an important task of voter enumeration. All those who are responsible for deputing 10 Class IV staff of Niloufer Hospital for the said task should be immediately suspended for their utter disregard to the democratic processes in which the voter enumeration is a key factor.

I personally feel, of late, majority of the government employees appear to be a frustrated lot despite receiving hefty monthly salaries and also making a quick buck in the form of kickbacks or gratification or mamool. Majority of them shirk responsibility and discharge duties only where there is extra income for them, just like our corrupt politicians for whom democracy is nothing but a waste of time.

Voter enumeration work cannot be taken lightly in view of the fact that vote is a constitutional right of every citizen and all eligible persons should be enlisted to the electoral rolls. Should there be a mistake in the enumeration of voters, several persons could lose an opportunity to vote and thereby the democratic process gets dented. As such only class III or above ranking officials should have been deployed for the duty from Niloufer Hospital.

It is unfortunate that some senior officials acted in utter disregard and undermined the democratic process. Such officials should be dealt with seriously so that in future none would dare to repeat such crude mistakes.

TG govt intentions appreciable

This is further to your editorial ‘Blending tech with education should be a measured move’. The proposed measures by Telangana government to make students career ready, bringing reforms in education at public schooling through technology integration and student welfare measures are indeed innovative moves in paving the way for career oriented education in the state.

It is good to know that the government is serious about achieving the intended goals through strengthening school infrastructure and upgrading curriculum, keeping in mind the present trends of AI and capacity to handle emerging technologies. Technology experts view the move as a forward looking act that helps students to enthusiastically embrace the digital future with aplomb.

It is imperative that basic and essential foundations in all subjects must be ensured in this regard taking into account students’ potential and talent to aim big later in their career. It is also vital that teachers too have to be meaningfully trained and suitably educated in this regard not to be caught on the back foot to adjust to the shifting technological landscape. These subjects must be updated and as per the global trend having an expert committee in place.
