Amaravati: HRD, IT and Electronics Minister Nara Lokesh has directed officials to upgrade all one-star government schools in Andhra Pradesh to two-star status within a year, stressing that the state government has been giving top priority to improving school infrastructure.
Lokesh conducted a review on school infrastructure and skill development at his Undavalli residence on Monday. He directed officials to ensure that all zero-star schools were upgraded to one-star status during the current academic year and prepare plans to bring all government schools to four-star status by 2029.
He also set a target of developing at least 1,000 schools as five-star institutions. The Minister called for special attention to infrastructure in schools located in agency areas and directed officials to prepare plans to develop 175 LEAP (Learning Excellence in Andhra Pradesh) schools, one in each Assembly constituency.
School Infrastructure Commissioner Ranjit Basha informed the Minister that the state currently had 1,685 one-star schools, 15,618 two-star schools, 19,099 three-star schools and 7,172 four-star schools.
Lokesh directed officials to assign responsibility for monitoring infrastructure improvements to District Educational Officers (DEOs), Mandal Educational Officers (MEOs) and Cluster Resource Persons (CRPs). He asked officials to also focus on establishing fully equipped computers and Atal Tinkering Labs in all 7,000 high schools across the state.
As academic reforms had been completed, the Minister said, officials and teachers should now focus entirely on improving learning outcomes.
Lokesh directed officials to utilise the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) to provide skill training to students. He set a target of imparting skills to five lakh students in the state during the current year.
The Minister also asked officials to effectively utilise schemes such as the Prime Minister's Internship Scheme (PMIS) and the Prime Minister's National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (PMNAPS).
The Minister directed officials to enrol every unemployed youth in the state on the Skill Portal and use artificial intelligence-based tools to conduct interviews and assess their skills. He called for training youth in foreign languages such as German and Japanese through SEEDAP and AP State Skill Development Corporation and related agencies to facilitate employment opportunities abroad.
Human Resources Department Principal Secretary J Syamala Rao, School Infrastructure and Intermediate Education Commissioner Ranjit Basha, State Education and Infrastructure Corporation MD Deeven Reddy, and Skill Development CEO Narayanaswamy attended the meeting.
