Congress searching for alibi for electoral defeats, says BJP MLA
In Short
The Congress on Friday held protests in several parts of the country seeking the removal and arrest of Gyanesh Kumar, amid its objections to the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. In Karnataka, the party has also announced protests at Freedom Park and district headquarters.

Bengaluru: Rajajinagar BJP MLA S Suresh Kumar on Saturday accused the Congress of looking for reasons to explain its electoral defeats and said its protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar was another such attempt.
In a statement, Suresh Kumar said the Congress had lost several elections before Gyanesh Kumar became Chief Election Commissioner and before the SIR exercise.
“Instead of blaming the CEC and SIR for its defeats, the Congress must indulge in honest introspection,” he said.
He alleged that the Congress had blamed the Election Commission, electronic voting machines, election officials and the SIR process for its electoral setbacks, while refusing to examine its own shortcomings.
Suresh Kumar said the Congress protest against Gyanesh Kumar would ultimately prove futile. Recalling the BJP’s performance in the 1984-85 Lok Sabha elections, when the party won two seats, he said the BJP had not blamed others for the defeat but had instead undertaken an internal review and worked to strengthen the organisation.
He said the BJP subsequently rebuilt the party through sustained organisational work and attributed its subsequent electoral successes to what he described as positive voter support.
