Ration card e-KYC from home
Bengaluru: The government has launched the Anna Seva mobile application to enable ration card beneficiaries to complete their mandatory e-KYC from home, reducing the need to visit fair price shops and wait in long queues.
Food Minister Rizwan Arshad launched the app on a pilot basis at Broadway in Shivajinagar, Bengaluru, on Thursday. The initiative comes amid complaints from beneficiaries about long queues and technical issues with servers while completing e-KYC at ration shops. The Anna Seva app has initially been introduced in eight districts — Bengaluru, Bengaluru Rural, Udupi, Haveri, Karwar, Ballari, Bidar and Koppal. The government plans to expand the facility to all districts after assessing the pilot project and resolving technical issues.
Speaking after launching the app, Rizwan Arshad said the department wanted to ensure that poor and vulnerable beneficiaries did not face inconvenience while completing e-KYC and receiving ration. “There are around 4.5 crore beneficiaries. People should not have to leave their work and visit fair price shops just to complete e-KYC. That is why we have launched the Anna Seva app in eight districts,” the minister said.
He added that the department would monitor the pilot project before extending the application across the state. The app could also be used for other schemes and services of the Food and Civil Supplies Department in the future. To complete e-KYC through the app, beneficiaries have to open the application and enter their ration card number. After verification, they can select the e-KYC option and complete the process through facial recognition. The initiative is expected to reduce crowding at fair price shops and make the mandatory verification process more convenient for ration card holders.
