189 rowdy sheeters test positive for drugs in police crackdown

Hyderabad City Police conducted a significant crackdown on rowdy sheeters, with as many as 189 individuals testing positive for narcotics during a screening drive aimed at tightening surveillance and enforcement. Following instructions from Hyderabad City Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar, the Task Force and the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing organised this special drive in coordination with local police. Medical tests were conducted on rowdy sheeters, trouble mongers, and individuals with a history of regular drug consumption in NDPS cases to create awareness about legal consequences. Vaibhav Raghunath Gaikwad, DCP of H-NEW, stated that tests were conducted at Osmania General Hospital, Gandhi Hospital, and the Government Hospital for Mental Care in Erragadda.

The DCP revealed that at Gandhi Hospital, 70 persons were tested, with 44 testing positive. At Osmania General Hospital, 59 out of 80 individuals tested positive. At the Government Hospital for Mental Health in Erragadda, 86 out of 89 persons tested positive. In total, 239 individuals were screened, of whom 189 were found positive. Raghunath Gaikwad noted that these individuals were counselled by psychiatrists regarding the harmful effects of abuse and the importance of rehabilitation. Appropriate legal cases are being booked against those found positive as per the law. H-NEW warned that strict action will be taken against drug-related activities while supporting recovery through proper counselling. The operation was carried out under the guidance of Additional DCP Task Force for Charminar Zone, Andhe Srinivas, and Additional DCP Task Force for Rajendra Nagar Zone, Iqbal Siddique. The police urged the public to stay away from drugs and support a healthy community, reaffirming their commitment to eradicating the drug menace through persistent monitoring and strict legal interventions across the metropolitan area.
