Hyderabad: TPCC president and MLC B Mahesh Kumar Goud reiterated on Sunday that a BC leader would become the Chief Minister of Telangana, expressing confidence that the Congress leadership would ensure greater political representation for Backward Classes.

Addressing a TPCC OBC public meeting at Shamshabad, Goud said Rahul Gandhi had given BC communities the courage to raise their voice for their rights.

“Empowered by the confidence instilled by Rahul Gandhi and Kharge, I assert that a BC leader will become the Chief Minister of Telangana,” he said.

Goud said Rahul Gandhi's message of “Jitni abadi utna haq” (rights and entitlements proportional to a group's share of the population), highlighted during the Bharat Jodo Yatra, had inspired the Congress to fight for the rightful share of BCs. He said the party would secure the share due to BC communities and, if necessary, fight to obtain it.

He said the party would work to increase BC representation in the Cabinet, Legislative Council and various corporations. Goud said the caste survey in Telangana was conducted with the cooperation of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka and other ministers, resulting in the preparation of the final document.

Targeting the BJP, Goud alleged that its MPs and MLAs lacked the courage to approach Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah and speak up for the rights of BCs. He accused the Centre of betraying the BC community and said Telangana's demand for social justice should serve as an eye-opener for the Union government.

Goud said Telangana could have emerged as a model for the country if the caste survey had been fully implemented. He alleged that while the SC and ST columns were retained in the Central survey, the OBC column was removed.

Highlighting the Congress government's efforts in Telangana, Goud said more than 55 per cent of sarpanches elected in local body polls were from the BC community.

He also claimed that the Congress had allocated 58 per cent of seats to BCs in municipal elections.

Goud said the time had come for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to step down and expressed confidence that Rahul Gandhi would become the Prime Minister. He announced that the Congress would conduct a nationwide caste survey once it came to power at the Centre and take the process forward.

Calling upon BC communities to unite by setting aside caste differences, Goud said there was nothing to lose by fighting for their rights.

He stressed the need to continue the struggle for future generations, describing the demand for adequate representation as a just one. He said the BC community must continue the fight until it secured its rightful share and asserted that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka stood firmly in support of BCs.
