Heavy downpour brings Hyderabad to a standstill

Hyderabad: Heavy rains lashed several parts of Hyderabad on Monday, disrupting normal life and causing severe traffic congestion especially during the evening rush hour. The moderate rainfall that began in the evening coincided with peak hours resulting in long traffic snarls across major roads in the city.

The rains slowed traffic movement on roads, with key bottlenecks reported around Madhapur, Hi-tech City and the Financial District. Simultaneously, commuters experienced slow movement of traffic at various junctions. Motorists took shelter under flyovers and metro pillars until the intensity of the rain subsided.

Another heavy rain later in the night further worsened the situation, leading to waterlogging in several low-lying areas. Overflowing stormwater drains and clogged nalas added to the flooding in some areas.

Several junctions witnessed long queues of vehicles, traffic police regulated the movement.

The intense rains caused waterlogging in several low-lying areas, severely disrupting normal life across Hyderabad. Heavy showers lashed Miyapur, Kukatpally, Moosapet, Ameerpet, Begumpet, Nampally, Koti, Chaderghat, Malakpet, Dilsukhnagar, LB Nagar, Kothapet, Secunderabad, Bowenpally, Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills, Filmnagar, Borabanda, and several parts of the Old City, including Kalapather, Chandrayangutta, Talab Katta, Yakutpura, and Azampura, among other areas.

Traffic police personnel from the Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Malkajgiri Commissionerates, were deployed at key junctions to regulate traffic, clear waterlogged stretches and ensure the smooth movement of vehicles.

Authorities have urged residents to remain indoors wherever possible and exercise caution until the weather improves.
