The land, part of a 188-acre HUDA-approved design featuring over 1,800 plots, was designated as a playground but had been under illegal use for the past three years.

In a major anti-encroachment drive in Telangana, the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Protection Agency reclaimed 6,500 sq yd of playground land worth about Rs 100 crore in Shastripuram Colony, Mailardevpally.

The land, which covers approximately 188 acres of the HUDA-approved design with over 1,800 plots, was reserved as a square but had been encroached upon for the last three years. The Hyderabad civic authority’s crackdown allegedly involved the sale of plots through notarised papers and the construction of illegal buildings.

Under the Old City Hyderabad demolition drive, five G+3 buildings has demolished under construction and two single-room structures. Two occupied buildings were left unharmed. Despite GHMC issuing demolition orders in 2024, the building continued.

Working on the complaints, HYDRAA, along with GHMC and revenue officials, confirmed the land use and cleared encroachments. The residents said they had faced threats from encroachers.

In a press release, Hydraa teams pulled down five buildings under construction, each planned as G 3 floors, along with two single-room arrangements. According to the design more than 1,700 plots were assigned. The 6,500 square yards is being selected for the playground.

In a break-up operation, HYDRAA secured a 968 sq yd park in Akshaya Enclave located in the Medchal-Malkajgiri district. The land, which is a part of the 1983 HUDA-approved design, had been targeted using supposedly fabricated authorizations in 2019. Officials detached construction material and fenced the site, declaring it a confined park area.

Authorities stated that the drives will carry on across Hyderabad to defend public spaces and avoid misuse of designated lands. Municipal enforcement Hyderabad officials even urged citizens to report doubtful land activities punctually, assuring strict legal action against violators and encroachers engaged in dealings and false property transactions.
