The Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad and Sammakka Sarakka Central Tribal University, Mulugu, have entered into a landmark Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen academic collaboration and enhance higher education opportunities for tribal students. The agreement was signed in the presence of Union Minister G Kishan Reddy and former DRDO Chairman G Satheesh Reddy. Prof BS Murty, Director of IITH, and Prof YL Srinivas, Vice-Chancellor of SSCTU, represented their respective institutions during the event. This partnership focuses on curriculum development, with IITH designing NEP-aligned frameworks for the upcoming academic programmes of the tribal university.

In addition to faculty training, IITH will conduct mentoring, pedagogical workshops, and training sessions for SSCTU staff. From the academic year 2026–27, the university will offer advanced programmes including BTech in Computer Science and AI, BS in Mathematics and Computing, and BS in Computer Science and Data Analytics. IITH will also help strengthen laboratory facilities and research readiness. Under the MoU, student development programmes such as internships, workshops, expert lectures, and seminars will be organised for the benefit of both students and faculty.

This collaboration is expected to provide a significant boost to the educational landscape of Mulugu and surrounding regions, ensuring that students from tribal and rural backgrounds gain access to cutting-edge technical education. Prof Murty emphasised that the mentorship would help build strong institutional capacity, while Prof Srinivas noted that the partnership will open new opportunities for tribal students to pursue careers in emerging fields like AI and data science, bridging the gap between rural talent and global technology standards through persistent support and academic excellence.
