IMD issues orange alert in Telangana
Hyderabad: The local unit of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert on heavy to very heavy rainfall in various parts of the state over the next two days, followed by light to moderate rainfall till August 3.
While forecasting that light to moderate rain or thundershowers are very likely to occur at most places over Telangana, the IMD issued an orange alert warning that heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places in Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu districts of Telangana. Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places in Bhadradri Kothagudem, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, and Kamareddy districts of Telangana.
As for July 31, the forecast is of light to moderate rain or thundershowers at many places over Telangana.
The IMD issued a warning that heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places in Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, and Kamareddy districts of Telangana. Similarly, heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places in Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, and Mulugu, districts of Telangana and from August 1 to 3 there could be light to moderate rain or thundershowers at a few places over Telangana. The weather officials attributed this to the deep depression formed in the Bay of Bengal, which is currently centered over the north Odisha and the Gangetic West Bengal regions and moving in a west-northwesterly direction. Data from the IMD revealed a rainfall deficit of 49 cm during June and July, attributed to the El NiƱo phenomenon. Officials observed that 33.3 cm of rainfall was recorded during the same period last year. Rainfall figures recorded include 9.64 cm in Eturunagaram (Mulugu district), 8.11 cm in Chegunta (Medak district), 7.68 cm in Medak, 6.71 cm in Shankarampet, 6.90 cm in Palem (Jayashankar Bhupalpally district), and 6.14 cm in Ashwaraopeta (Bhadradri Kothagudem district).
