Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Wednesday directed the Station House Officer (SHO) of Saifabad police station to preserve the CCTV footage, including entry and exit recordings, of September 14, when the PRO and PA of BRS working president K T Rama Rao were questioned in connection with a case relating to an alleged incident on September 7 in front of the Assembly.

Justice Tangirala Madhavi Devi also directed the SHO to furnish a pen drive containing the CCTV footage to the court within two weeks.

The court issued notices to the Home Secretary, Director-General of Police, Hyderabad Police Commissioner, DCP Khairatabad and ACP Khairatabad, asking them to file their replies within two weeks.

The judge directed the Home Secretary, DGP and Hyderabad Police Commissioner to take precautions to ensure safety of the petitioners when they appear again before the investigating officer for questioning. The petitioners are scheduled to appear before the Saifabad SHO on Thursday. Senior counsel Gandra Mohan Rao, appearing for the petitioners, submitted that around 15-20 masked men entered the police station while the petitioners were being questioned by the IO on September 14. He alleged that some of them were carrying concealed weapons and had entered the station with an intent to harm the petitioners.

The counsel sought protection for the petitioners during their further questioning and requested preservation of the CCTV footage to help identify the masked persons. The petitioners also apprehended that some of the masked men could be police personnel.

Government Pleader (Home) Mahesh Raje opposed the contention. He told the court that the persons wearing masks had come to the police station to obtain permission for a DJ system for the Ganesh festival. He submitted that there had been no attack on the petitioners, as alleged.

The court heard a writ filed by Mahesh Manikya Mahesh, media coordinator-cum-PRO, and Mahender Kumbala alias Mahender Reddy, PA to KTR. The petitioners challenged the alleged inaction of the Saifabad SHO in preventing the entry of 15-20 masked persons into the station between 6 and 7 pm on September 14, while they were being questioned.

The petitioners sought directions for the DGP to constitute a team of police officers from outside the PS to inquire into the incident, identify the persons involved and register an FIR. They sought preservation of CCTV footage and other electronic evidence relating to the incident and immediate protection to their lives and safety.

The case was adjourned by two weeks.
