Hyderabad: Frustrated over the poor sanitation in the area, the residents of over 50 colonies in Shaikpet have submitted a representation to the GHMC zonal commissioner highlighting sanitation issues. These include irregular garbage collection, shortage of garbage autos, accumulation of debris, and poor maintenance around mosques, temples, other religious places, parks, and playgrounds.

According to residents, the unattended garbage spread on the roads makes it difficult for both residents and pedestrians to move around. Several colonies here have been witnessing most of the viral fever cases due to poor sanitation in residential areas.

The residents say they have been requesting the civic body to lift the garbage, initiate fogging and sanitation drives, but all fell into deaf ears. There is no lifting of garbage for the three to four days in their colonies, says Shaik Nayeem, a resident.

Asif Sohail, President of the Jubilee Hills Constituency Colonies Forum, said that more than 100 representations were received from various colony associations and residents regarding ongoing sanitation problems. He said “The unattended garbage spread on the roads produces a foul smell, which makes it difficult for citizens. Who is daily dealing with such inconvenience,” said Asif Sohail.

The residents also pointed out other issues, including irregular garbage collection, shortage of garbage autos, accumulation of debris, and poor maintenance around mosques, temples, other religious places, parks, and playgrounds. Asif Sohail, along with residents of colonies, called on Ravi Kiran, additional commissioner (sanitation), GHMC, and submitted a representation highlighting sanitation issues in over 50 colonies under the Golconda Zone.

The residents urged GHMC to sanction additional garbage autos, undertake a special debris clearance drive, and ensure daily garbage collection along with regular cleaning across all affected areas.

Asif Sohail, expressed his gratitude to Ravi Kiran for the support extended and for the sanctions granted in OU Colony and Shaikpet Division, particularly in Surya Nagar, stating that these were the result of continuous follow-up and representations.

Asif Sohail recalled Ravi Kiran’s earlier tenure as Zonal Commissioner, Khairtabad, during which he played a key role in infrastructure development in Shaikpet and consistently responded positively to public representations.

They discussed measures to strengthen the sanitation system and prioritize cleanliness across the Golconda Zone.
