Proddatur (YSR Kadapa district): Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan said the coalition government would give equal priority to people irrespective of their region or political affiliation and asserted that there would be no politics in providing safe drinking water.
Addressing a public meeting here on Monday, Pawan Kalyan, along with Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, laid the foundation stone for drinking water projects worth Rs 30,156 crore under the Jal Jeevan Mission and Amarajeevi Jaladhara.
He said ensuring safe drinking water to every household and water security to every village was the primary objective of Amarajeevi Jaladhara. “It is the government’s responsibility to solve the problems of people irrespective of the region they belong to or the political party they support,” he said. Pawan Kalyan said 50,315 works were being taken up with an investment of Rs 30,156 crore to provide safe drinking water to 3.27 crore people.
The capacity of existing tap connections in 24,601 habitations would be strengthened, while 27.36 lakh new household tap connections would be provided.
He said 1,426 MLD-capacity water treatment plants, 494 overhead balancing reservoirs, 13,075 overhead storage reservoirs and 77,000 km of pipelines would be added under Amarajeevi Jaladhara. The government was also taking up 50,283 single-village schemes and retrofitting works at a cost of Rs 9,000 crore and 32 multi-village schemes at Rs 19,500 crore.
The Deputy Chief Minister said special attention was being given to water quality in areas affected by kidney ailments, drought, fluoride and pollution. He said Rs 1,624 crore had been allocated for water-quality monitoring and Rs 1,600 crore for maintenance of pumping stations, reservoirs, pipelines and related infrastructure.
He said 340 filter beds had already been restored at a cost of Rs 35 crore, while another 552 would be renovated for Rs 88 crore.
Pawan Kalyan announced Rs 3.5 crore worth of infrastructure works for Tallamapuram, Sagiligodduppalli and Mulavaripalli villages in the Proddatur constituency. These include CC roads, drains, an overhead reservoir with 90-kilolitre capacity, four km of pipelines and a borewell.
He said the government had allocated Rs 280 crore to complete the drinking water scheme in Pulivendula, benefiting 299 villages in seven mandals. He also said Rs 4,200 crore had been released to panchayats under the 15th Finance Commission and assured timely payment of bills to contractors.
