Bar, restaurant owners call statewide shutdown today
Karimnagar: Bar and restaurant owners in Karimnagar Urban and Rural areas will observe a one-day shutdown on Monday, October 5, in support of the Telangana Bar and Restaurant Association’s statewide protest against proposed increases in licence fees and new regulations.
Karimnagar District Bar and Restaurant Owners Association president Ponnala Tirupathi and general secretary Maddi Ramesh Goud said all establishments would remain closed and owners would participate in a protest at Abkari Bhavan in Hyderabad. The association alleged that the Government proposed introducing a privilege tax and increasing the bar slab from 8 per cent to 20 per cent, which could raise liquor prices by around Rs 10 to Rs 15 on the MRP. Tirupathi said the industry was already facing financial difficulties and warned that higher costs could threaten businesses and employment. He said several families depended on each bar for their livelihood and urged the Government to withdraw the proposed measures.
