Nandyal/Kurnool: Law and Minority Welfare Minister NMD Farooq and district Collector G Raja Kumari commemorated the birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri in Nandyal on Friday.
Paying floral tributes at Gandhi Chowk, Minister Farooq highlighted Gandhi’s enduring legacy of truth, peace, and non-violence, while also urging farmers to adopt scientific practices to promote Rayalaseema products like Banganapalli mangoes internationally. Recalling Gandhi’s contribution to the freedom struggle, he said Mahatma’s principles and peaceful approach remained relevant even today. He also expressed concern over the rising temperatures, observing that the weather was unusually hot this year compared to previous years. He said Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu was according special attention to the development of Rayalaseema, particularly horticulture sector.
Collector Raja Kumari praised Gandhi’s peaceful freedom movements and honored Shastri’s leadership, emphasising his iconic slogan, ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan’, which celebrates the vital roles of soldiers and farmers. Through movements such as the Quit India Movement, Non-Cooperation Movement and Civil Disobedience Movement, Gandhi mobilised people against British rule and strengthened the peaceful struggle for independence.

MLA Charitha Reddy echoed these sentiments, noting how initiatives like Swachh Bharat reflect the Mahatma’s vision for a clean and united nation.
Across both districts, leaders emphasised that the timeless values of these national icons remain crucial for guiding future generations toward social justice, peace, and national progress.
