Mancherial: A centralized community kitchen is set to be inaugurated here on Monday as part of the Telangana government’s prestigious school breakfast programme. With a daily capacity to serve approximately 50,000 people, this kitchen will provide nutritious breakfasts to 42,450 school students and 6,654 junior college students every day. The centralized community kitchen is constructed at a cost of Rs8 crore on the medical godown premises of the Mancherial Agriculture Market Yard, was built through the initiative of local MLA Kokkirala Prem Sagar Rao.

The Hare Krishna Movement Charitable Foundation (HKMCF) is acting as the implementation partner for this kitchen. Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) provided financial support for the construction using its CSR funds. Through the centralised kitchen, high-quality, hygienic, and nutritious breakfast will be provided daily to 42,450 students across 691 government schools and 6,654 students across 13 junior colleges in 17 mandals spanning the Jagtial, Mancherial, and Peddapalli districts. Notably, this centralised community kitchen has been constructed using modern technology within an 8,000-square-foot shed allocated by the government. To ensure the highest standards of food quality, hygiene, and safety alongside providing quality meals, special facilities such as a food lab and a milk processing unit have been established.

Additionally, an automatic vegetable washing and cutting unit, an RO water plant, a boiler plant, and a central gas bank have been set up. A menu has been designed based on guidelines from the National Institute of Nutrition to provide students with a balanced and nutritious breakfast.

According to the schedule, students will be served Idli with Sambar on Mondays, Poori with Aloo Kurma on Tuesdays, Dosa with Chutney on Wednesdays, Upma with Chutney on Thursdays, Millet Idli with Sambar on Fridays, and Bonda with Chutney on Saturdays.

This kitchen facility will benefit 17 mandals. These include Mancherial, Bellampalli, Jannaram, Mandamarri, Luxettipet, Dandepalli, Kasipet, Nennal, Hajipur, Naspur, and Bheemaram in Mancherial district; Velgatoor and Endapalli in Jagtial district; and Ramagundam, Peddapalli, Anthargaon, and Palakurthi in Peddapalli district.

The programme aims to ensure that students do not attend schools or junior colleges on an empty stomach; instead, by consuming a healthy and nutritious breakfast, they can pursue their education with enthusiasm.

By providing breakfast to thousands of students daily in a hygienic environment that adheres to the highest quality standards, the School Breakfast Programme is set to have a positive impact on the students’ health, nutrition, and academic pursuits. MLA Prema Sagar Rao stated that the initiative would begin at the Mancherial district headquarters in the first phase and subsequently expand to neighboring districts. He revealed that measures are being taken to provide lunch in addition to breakfast within the next two to three months.
