Nellore: The Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) police wing has traced a married woman who went missing eight years ago, recovering her safely and handing her over to her family members on Saturday.
The woman was identified as 39-year-old Devela Lakshmi, wife of Chandrasekhar from South Rajupalem village in Nellore rural mandal, with her native place being Kesar village in Bhamini mandal of Srikakulam district.
She previously lived in South Rajupalem with her husband while working at a local rice mill. Police noted that her disappearance was registered under Nellore Rural Police Station Crime No. 596/2018.
The AHTU Nellore team conducted a detailed search by analyzing available information and successfully traced Lakshmi on October 3, 2026, near the Srikalahasti temple in Tirupati district.
Following her safe recovery, police initiated legal procedures to transfer her case back to the Nellore Rural Police Station.
Highlighting ongoing efforts, AHTU teams continuously monitor pending missing person cases by coordinating technical data. District SP Dr Ajitha Vejendla commended the AHTU team for their exceptional dedication in locating the woman after eight years.
