Nellore: Andhra Pradesh Agricultural Labourers’ Union (APALU) district president P Leela Mohan has demanded a comprehensive vigilance inquiry into the utilisation of Rs 10 crore, sanctioned for repairs related to Somasila Reservoir south canal. Leela Mohan, along with other leaders, submitted a representation to district Collector Himanshu Shukla during Public Grievance Redressal System (PGRS) programme on Monday, seeking a detailed investigation into the works and utilisation of funds.

He recalled that during Irrigation Advisory Board (IAB) meeting held in 2025, 4.7 TMC of water was allocated to the south canal under fourth agenda item, benefiting nearly 48,000 acres. He pointed out that while water was flowing smoothly through the canal and crops were being cultivated without interruption, showing that works worth Rs 10 crore had been taken up in the name of canal repairs raised several doubts.

Leela Mohan sought clarity from the authorities on where the Rs 10 crore was spent, what works were undertaken and the extent to which they had been completed. He demanded that vigilance authorities examine the quality of the works, bills, estimates and expenditure. If any financial irregularities or misuse of funds were found, strict action should be taken against the officials and others responsible, he said.

He also demanded recovery of any misused public funds from those responsible and depositing the amount back into the government treasury. Departmental action should be initiated against the officials concerned until the inquiry is completed.
