In Short
Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) contractors stage a protest demanding the clearance of 450 crore rupees in pending bills stalled due to NIDHI portal technical glitches.

Holding placards, raising slogans, contractors staged a dharna in Visakhapatnam on Monday
Visakhapatnam: Demanding immediate intervention to clear payments due to them, representatives of the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation Contractors Welfare Association staged a protest in the city on Monday.
Holding placards and raising slogans, they sought immediate redressal of technical glitches that repeatedly occurred in the NIDHI portal while uploading bills from January to September and demanded that their payments be cleared before the Dasara festival.
Association president PVV Nagaraju and general secretary M. Sanjeeva Reddy stated that intervention is needed to overcome the serious financial crisis faced by local contractors, suppliers, and labour teams involved in various development works the government has undertaken across Visakhapatnam.
Also, compiling their concerns, the association sent a letter to TDP state president and Gajuwaka MLA Palla Srinivasa Rao, seeking his support in clearing their pending payments.
Sanjeeva Reddy said that even though all department works entrusted to the contractors were completed, their payments remained unpaid due to recurring technical snags and system bottlenecks encountered while uploading pending bills on the NIDHI portal, the state financial management portal.
Due to the non-clearance of bills for close to nine months, association representatives mentioned that the contractors are under severe pressure as they have to pay interest to the banks, meet operational expenses, and cover equipment rentals.
“The pending works and bills from January to September amount to Rs.450 crore,” the association representatives informed. As they must pay subcontractors and workers before Dasara, they urged the GVMC to ensure the bills get cleared before the festival.
Listing their demands, the association members have been staging dharna for the past six days in the city.
