Visakhapatnam: General Manager of South Coast Railway Sandeep Mathur organised a safety meeting with principal heads of all departments and the DRMs of four divisions and reviewed the safety preparedness of the zone, with special emphasis on precautions to be taken during the monsoon season at railway stations and ongoing work sites.
During the meeting, the General Manager directed officials to ensure that all necessary monsoon safety precautions are strictly followed at all tations, yards and railway work sites.
He stressed the need for continuous monitoring of vulnerable locations, proper drainage arrangements, removal of waterlogging, and prompt attention to any safety-related issues arising due to heavy rains and strong winds.
Further, the GM emphasised that ongoing construction and maintenance works must be adequately barricaded to prevent entry of passengers, staff and other unauthorised persons into work zones.
Barricades should be sturdy, clearly visible and properly maintained, particularly at locations where works are being carried out in passenger movement areas along with adequate illumination, signage and other safety measures.
Special attention should be given to platforms, circulating areas, approaches and other locations prone to water accumulation or slippery conditions during the monsoon.
