On the occasion of World Health Day, eminent physician Dr Dharam Raghuraman said that health must be viewed as a state of physical, mental and social well-being, and not merely the absence of illness. Speaking at a health camp organised at his clinic in Boyawada on Tuesday, he referred to the theme “Together, For Health, Stand with science,” and stressed the importance of evidence-based medical treatment. People were screened for obesity, diabetes, blood pressure and cholesterol, and necessary medicines were provided.

Dr Raghuraman noted that lifestyle-related disorders have been rising due to stress, irregular eating habits and lack of physical activity. He advised maintaining a balanced diet, regular exercise, proper sleep and effective stress management to ensure good health.

He cautioned against relying on unverified health advice on social media and warned that self-diagnosis could lead to serious complications. He urged people to consult qualified doctors and emphasised that practitioners must adhere to their areas of expertise to ensure quality care. Highlighting the importance of preventive healthcare, he said regular health check-ups help detect issues early and prevent complications. He called for collective efforts to build a healthier society through disciplined lifestyle practices.
