At least 10 people lost their lives after a boat carrying pilgrims capsized in the Yamuna River near Mathura on Friday, with rescue efforts still underway to locate missing passengers.
According to officials, the boat was carrying around 25 to 30 people when it overturned near Keshighat in Vrindavan. Panic reportedly broke out after the overcrowded vessel collided with a pontoon bridge, leading to the accident.
Rescue teams, including local police, fire services, and divers, quickly reached the site and have so far managed to save over 14 individuals. However, authorities fear that around a dozen passengers may still be missing.
Officials said the group had travelled from Punjab and was visiting the river when the mishap occurred. Initial findings suggest that the boat struck the pontoon bridge before capsizing.
