Prashant Kishor Is All Set To Be MLA From Bihar's Bankipur

Prashant Kishor, the founder of the Jan Suraaj Party achieved an unbeatable lead during the counting of the Bankipur assembly bypoll in Bihar on Monday, marking a historic victory on his own electoral debut. After receiving zero in the assembly elections the previous year, a victory would guarantee his party's first-ever seat in the state legislature. This comes from a constituency that has been a BJP stronghold for more than thirty years.

The outcome is probably going to help strategist-turned-leader Kishor establish the Jan Suraaj Party as a rival political force in the state. Kishore described the by-election as a referendum on the state's BJP government, which is led by Samrat Choudhary.

With almost 50% of the vote, Prashant Kishor lead both RJD's Rekha Gupta and BJP's Neeraj Kumar Sinha throughout the counting rounds until the 31st. As of 6 p.m., PK's advantage was approximately 19,000 when the Election Commission of India revealed that five more rounds were still to be counted.

Kishor reaffirmed that this was not your typical election and referred to it as "the victory of the people of Bankipur." This was more than merely an election to select an MLA, as he said during the campaign. Kishore added that "it was an attempt by the people of Bihar to send a message to the BJP's central leadership that they should appoint a good person as the Chief Minister of Bihar."

"The important point is that Bihar needs good leadership and real development... We do not want to become MLAs merely to award contracts," he added, adding that the people of Bihar wanted a chief minister who could enhance education, provide jobs for young people, and stop migration from the state. He added, "Our sole objective is the development of Bihar."
