Udhayanidhi Stalin Detained After TVK's Complaint over Alleged Remarks Against Trisha Krishnan

Tamil Nadu's leader of the opposition (LoP), Udhayanidhi, was arrested by Thanjavur East police under several provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin was detained after Tamil Nadu chief minister Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) complained to the police and the National Commission for Women (NCW) about the opposition leader's alleged comments about actress Trisha Krishnan.
Thanjavur East police arrested Udhayanidhi under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) after receiving a complaint from Bhairavi, a Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) district official.
Additionally, the complaints against him include allegations that he made indecent and double entendre remarks during his speech. Based on the complaint, the Thanjavur East Police had filed a case against the DMK leader under Sections 196, 192, 352, 79, 296(b), 61 & 351(2) BNS, 4 of the TNPHW Act and 67 of the IT Act.
According to reports, Stalin said these things at a public gathering in Thanjavur on the Cauvery water dispute. The alleged remarks came from the Tamil Nadu LoP as he was delivering his speech and some members of the audience started the chants “Trisha, Trisha.”
"Whether the water reaches anywhere else or not, it should reach there," he continued, pausing briefly before making it clear that he meant the Cauvery.
However, according to news agency PTI, the TVK has claimed that Udhayanidhi Stalin made an offensive and deceptive comment in response to the "Trisha" shouts.
Stalin and DMK IT wing executives were accused in the lawsuit of purposefully demeaning women, which put the actor and women in general under mental strain. It added that a video of the incident, which lasted more than two minutes, was purposefully shared on X by the MK Stalin-led party.
Pazha Selvakumar, the national spokesperson for TVK, has formally complained to the NCW in New Delhi.
TVK ministers, such as Aadhav Arjuna and N Anand, vehemently denounced the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam as the incident erupted, calling their actions "absolutely disgusting" and claiming that they reveal the "mindset, political culture, and declining standards of the Arivalayam clan."
Narayanan Thirupathy, the top spokesperson for the Tamil Nadu BJP, also slammed the DMK leader, calling for Stalin's arrest and calling his said comments "disgusting, obscene, vulgar and shameful."
