Chittoor Cyber Cell recovers Rs 2.22 lakh lost in online fraud

Chittoor: Chittoor district Cyber Cell police recovered Rs 2,22,054 within two days after a man from Somala village reported an online fraud immediately after the incident.
The victim received a message stating that a fine of Rs 1,000 had been imposed on his tractor. After opening the link in the message, a fake application in the name of mParivahan was installed on his mobile phone.
Soon after, Rs 2,22,054 was unauthorisedly debited from his ICICI credit card. The victim immediately contacted ICICI customer care and also reported the incident to 1930 Cyber Crime Helpline.
Acting on the complaint, Chittoor district Cyber Cell police took immediate steps to block the related banking transactions and initiate recovery process.
With the timely action of the police and the prompt complaint by the victim, the entire amount of Rs 2,22,054 was recovered within two days and returned to him.
District Superintendent of Police Tushar Doodi urged people not to delay reporting cyber frauds. He said every second is important in such cases and victims should immediately call 1930.
The SP also advised people not to open unknown links, APK files or suspicious applications. People should verify messages claiming to be from official organisations before responding. The police also advised victims to report fraud through cybercrime.gov.in and approach the nearest cybercrime unit.
