Apple may launch stylish AI smartglasses by 2027, focusing on everyday usability, premium design, and seamless Siri-powered hands-free experiences.

Apple Inc. appears to be gearing up for a major push into the wearable tech space, with fresh reports suggesting that the company is developing AI-powered smartglasses aimed at everyday use. Expected to debut as early as late 2026, the product could mark a significant step in Apple’s broader strategy to expand beyond traditional devices like iPhones and Macs.

According to recent insights, the Cupertino-based tech giant is positioning its smartglasses as a direct competitor to offerings like the Meta Ray-Ban Smart Glasses. However, Apple’s approach may stand out through a stronger emphasis on design variety and premium materials. The company is reportedly experimenting with at least four distinct frame styles, including both rectangular and circular options in varying sizes. One of the slimmer rectangular designs is said to resemble the eyewear commonly worn by Apple CEO Tim Cook.

In addition to diverse shapes, Apple is also considering multiple colour finishes such as black, ocean blue, and light brown. Unlike some competitors that rely on plastic, Apple is believed to be opting for acetate frames, a material known for its durability and premium feel. This design choice could help the product appeal to style-conscious consumers looking for both functionality and aesthetics.

In terms of features, the smartglasses are expected to skip built-in displays, focusing instead on practical, hands-free capabilities. Reports indicate that the device will include integrated cameras, allowing users to capture photos and videos seamlessly. The camera design may feature vertically aligned oval lenses with surrounding lights, offering a distinct look compared to rival products.

The glasses are also likely to support voice interactions via Apple’s digital assistant, Siri. Notably, Siri is expected to receive a major upgrade later this year, potentially incorporating advanced AI capabilities powered by external models such as Google’s Gemini. This enhancement could significantly improve the assistant’s responsiveness and contextual understanding.

Beyond photography and voice commands, the smartglasses are expected to enable users to make phone calls, listen to music, and interact with their surroundings more intuitively. These features align with Apple’s broader vision of integrating AI into everyday experiences through wearable technology.

The smartglasses are reportedly part of a larger ecosystem of AI-driven devices under development. This includes upgraded AirPods and even a camera-equipped pendant, all designed to leverage computer vision technology. These devices would work together to better understand the user’s environment, enabling smarter navigation, contextual reminders, and more personalised interactions.

While an official price has not yet been disclosed, the product is expected to compete with existing offerings in the premium segment. For reference, Meta’s latest smartglasses are priced starting at around ₹39,900 in India. Apple’s version, with its design and ecosystem advantages, could potentially command a similar or higher price point.

Although Apple had previously explored more complex augmented and mixed reality concepts, this new product appears to focus on simplicity and daily usability—bringing smartglasses closer to mainstream adoption.
