WhatsApp Web May Soon Offer Custom Chat Themes with 49 Colour Choices

WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new feature that could significantly enhance the visual experience of its web platform. According to a report by WABetaInfo, the messaging service is testing chat themes for WhatsApp Web, allowing users to personalise conversations with a wide range of colours, wallpapers, and styles.

Currently, customisation options on WhatsApp Web remain quite limited. Users can only tweak chat backgrounds with wallpapers and apply basic doodle overlays. However, this upcoming feature aims to bring the web version closer to the more advanced personalisation options already available on mobile devices.

The report suggests that WhatsApp is developing as many as 49 different theme options. These will not just include basic colours but also multiple shades and tones within each colour category. For instance, instead of a single blue theme, users may be able to choose from several variations, offering greater flexibility in design preferences.

The chat themes are expected to function as complete visual presets. When a user selects a theme, it will automatically adjust both the message bubble colour and the chat background to create a cohesive look. This unified design approach is likely to improve readability and make conversations more visually appealing.

Another notable feature under development is the ability to assign different themes to individual chats. This means users could customise each conversation separately based on context or preference. For example, professional chats could have minimal, muted themes, while personal or group chats might feature brighter, more vibrant designs. This level of differentiation could also help users quickly identify chats at a glance.

Importantly, these customisations will remain private. The selected themes will only be visible to the user applying them, ensuring that personal preferences do not affect how others see the conversation.
