Bhadrachalam: The Godavari River at Bhadrachalam in Telangana’s Bhadradri Kothagudem district touched the first warning level of 43 feet on Friday, prompting irrigation authorities to issue the first flood warning.
Officials said the steady rise in the river level was caused by heavy upstream inflows, with water continuing to flow into the Godavari from its tributaries. The river was recorded at 43 feet, triggering the first stage of the flood alert.
Authorities have advised residents living in low-lying areas along the river to remain vigilant and closely follow updates issued by the district administration. Officials are continuously monitoring the situation and keeping a watch on further inflows that could lead to a rise in the water level.
Disaster management teams and other departments have been put on alert to respond swiftly if the river continues to swell. Officials also appealed to pilgrims, fishermen and tourists to avoid venturing into the river and to strictly adhere to safety advisories.
