Police recovered stolen property worth approximately Rs 20 lakh from the accused, including cash, gold and silver ornaments, electronic goods, agricultural equipment, liquor bottles, motorcycles and mobile phones, Superintendent of Police K. Narasimha, informed on Monday.

The breakthrough came while police were investigating a burglary reported at the house of Bokka Venkat Reddy in Patha Suryapet village on August 30. Agricultural equipment, cable wire, a CCTV hard disk, inverter, battery, gold ornaments and cash were stolen from the house.

Acting on credible information, Atmakur (S) SI M Ailaiah and his team conducted vehicle checks near Patha Suryapet X Road on the Suryapet-Dantalapalli route in the early hours. Police intercepted five men travelling on three motorcycles while allegedly carrying an agricultural motor.

The accused were identified as Surikanti Naresh alias Naresh Reddy, Mereddy Mahipal Reddy alias Preetham Reddy, Pannala Giridhar Reddy, Shivaratri Aravind alias Arun and Kasala Uday Kiran Reddy alias Kiran Reddy.

According to police, interrogation revealed that the accused had allegedly formed a gang and committed thefts over the past year. They reportedly targeted houses, agricultural borewell motors and wine shops to fund their drinking and lavish lifestyles.

Police said the gang was linked to eight theft cases, including two in Atmakur (S), two in Chivvemla, three in Suryapet Rural and one in Nakrekal. The recovered property includes Rs 1.20 lakh cash, around 7.5 tolas of gold, 20.5 tolas of silver, three smart TVs, a sound bar, microwave oven, inverter and battery.
