SCCL blasting operations spark health crisis in Rajapur

Peddapalli: Rajapur village remained in a state of distress as blasting operations carried out by the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) at the Ramagundam-3 Area’s Opencast Project (OCP)-2 continued to severely impact daily life.
Located adjacent to the OC-2 mine, the village had been bearing the brunt of mining activities for months. Residents had earlier staged protests during the summer, highlighting the hardships caused by frequent blasting and demanding immediate relocation. Following the agitation, the District Collector had issued a notification for the acquisition of houses and agricultural lands in the village. In November, Singareni revenue officials had undertaken a house-numbering exercise. However, the process triggered fresh grievances, with several residents alleging that their houses were either left out or assigned only temporary numbers despite being permanent dwellings. Villagers who approached Minister Sridhar Babu and officials were advised to submit formal applications at the Collector’s office, but little progress had been made since then.
