CPI demands halting to mining lease to Indosol

Markapur: The Communist Party of India (CPI) Markapur District Secretary, ML Narayana, has demanded the immediate suspension of a white quartz mining lease allegedly granted to Indosol Solar Pvt Ltd in Nallagula village, Komarolu Mandal, calling it illegal and against the wishes of local farmers and residents.
The disputed land in Survey No 591 covers approximately 170 acres of Unassessed Waste Land belonging to the village, of which 15 acres were previously assigned to poor farmers. The remaining land is used by landless cultivators for sustenance farming and as grazing ground for livestock. Narayana alleged that on April 2, officials from the Markapur RDO and Komarolu Tahsildar offices, police personnel, and over 100 people brought in by Indosol representatives entered the village without prior public notice and hurriedly conducted a public opinion meeting. Despite this, villagers and farmers from surrounding areas gathered in large numbers and strongly opposed the mining lease. The CPI leader announced that a party team from the district will visit Nallaguntla village on April 6 to interact with villagers and farmers and chart out future plans.
The CPI demanded that farmers currently cultivating the land be granted title deeds, and the remaining land be officially notified as a grazing reserve. The party demanded the immediate suspension of Tahsildar B Ramadevi, who allegedly issued a No Objection Certificate overriding public opposition, warning of sustained protests until the lease is canceled.
