Upasana Singh says son Nanak was destined for acting, praises his dedication and talent

The actress added that seeing Nanak perform on screen feels natural because she has watched his growth as an artist over the years.
Mumbai: Veteran actress Upasana Singh has opened up about her son Nanak’s journey in the entertainment industry, saying she always believed he was destined for a career in acting.
Speaking about the joy of seeing Nanak featured in the song O Jana, the actress described the moment as both emotional and rewarding. Upasana said that as a mother, watching her son pursue his dreams and establish himself in the industry brings her immense happiness.
Reflecting on Nanak’s early years, she revealed that signs of his passion for acting were evident from childhood. Although she initially viewed his aspirations as a typical childhood dream, his dedication and commitment over the years convinced her that he was meant for the profession.
“Ever since Nanak was a child, I could see signs that he belonged in this profession. He often spoke about wanting to become an actor. As he grew older, I witnessed his hard work, his performances in college, the awards he won and the passion he showed for the craft,” Upasana said.
The actress added that seeing Nanak perform on screen feels natural because she has watched his growth as an artist over the years. She noted that he has already worked in Punjabi cinema and continues to progress steadily in his career.
Offering advice to Nanak and aspiring actors, Upasana emphasised the importance of hard work, continuous learning and staying grounded despite success. She said actors must constantly observe people and life around them to better understand emotions, behaviour and human expressions.
“My advice is simple: work hard and keep learning every day. Every individual has unique mannerisms and an actor learns from observing them. While I have never formally taught Nanak acting, I believe he is naturally talented and acting comes naturally to him,” she shared.
Praising her son further, Upasana described Nanak as an exceptional dancer whose dedication is evident through his performances and dance workshops. She stressed that she wants him to build his own identity rather than follow in her footsteps.
“I do not want him to imitate me. I want him to create his own identity as an artist,” she said.
