Veteran Bollywood star Madhuri Dixit has spoken candidly about the unequal standards women often face in matters of love and relationships, highlighting how societal perceptions continue to differ for men and women. The actress made the remarks while discussing her latest film, Maa Behen, which explores unconventional characters who challenge traditional social norms.

According to Madhuri, many of these attitudes stem from a deeply rooted patriarchal mindset that has been normalized over generations. She pointed out that men are frequently praised for having multiple romantic relationships and are often labeled as charming or desirable. However, when women make similar choices, they are subjected to criticism and negative judgments.

The actress noted that such double standards have existed for a long time and continue to influence the way relationships are viewed in society. She explained that Maa Behen attempts to question these conventions by presenting characters who refuse to fit into society’s predefined expectations.

Madhuri shared that one of the most exciting aspects of the film is its willingness to break established rules. She described the characters as chaotic, confused, flawed, and unpredictable, yet deeply authentic and relatable. According to her, the film embraces the imperfections of everyday people, making the story more realistic and engaging.

The story revolves around Rekha, a mother already struggling to manage the challenges of daily life when an unexpected crisis turns everything upside down. After discovering a dead body in her kitchen, she joins forces with her daughters—responsible Jaya and rebellious Sushma—to conceal the shocking secret while staying one step ahead of their inquisitive neighbors.

With its mix of dark humor, suspense, and social commentary, Maa Behen aims to entertain audiences while also sparking conversations about gender stereotypes and societal expectations.
