Bengaluru: In a major boost for job aspirants awaiting government teaching positions, the Karnataka School Education Department is set to complete the recruitment of 15,000 school teachers within the next 100 days. An official notification for the recruitment drive is expected to be issued as early as next week.
The state’s government schools are currently facing a shortage of more than 80,000 primary and secondary school teachers. To address this gap, the Finance Department has approved the recruitment of 51,000 teachers, with the first phase focusing on filling 15,000 vacancies.
The recruitment will cover various categories, including Primary School Teachers (PSTR), Graduate Primary School Teachers (GPSTR), and High School Teachers (HSTR). The drive will also include the appointment of Physical Education teachers and 2,500 Information Technology (IT) teachers, aimed at introducing computer education from Class 1 in government schools.
According to education department sources, the recruitment process will be conducted under the revised Cadre and Recruitment (C&R) Rules. Detailed vacancy information and eligibility criteria for PSTR, GPSTR, and HSTR posts will be released along with the official notification.
The department plans to expedite the entire process by conducting recruitment examinations within two months of issuing the notification and announcing results soon thereafter. Officials have indicated that the newly recruited teachers are expected to join schools during the current academic year itself.
The announcement comes as welcome news for thousands of teaching aspirants who have been waiting for large-scale recruitment in the education sector for several years. The department has advised eligible candidates to begin their preparation for the upcoming examinations immediately.
