Unrelenting discipline is Kohli’s USP

While reading your editorial on Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s win, we cannot overlook the foundational role played by Virat Kohli’s discipline. His legendary transformation from craving for chole bhature to embracing a strict boiled food diet is cricketing folklore.

This elite physical conditioning explains why his running between the wickets remains top tier, constantly converting singles into doubles. Bengaluru’s success deeply mirrors Kohli’s personal journey of continuous improvement and refusing to lower standards. Their triumph ultimately proves that sustained excellence is forged through unrelenting discipline rather than talent alone.

RCB triumph a lesson in resilience

Apropos “Pocketing IPL titles, the new fad of RCB” (THI June 2). Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s transformation from perennial underachievers to serial champions reflects the power of persistence and evolution. Their back-to-back triumphs show how discipline, leadership and strategic clarity can turn heartbreak into habit.

Virat Kohli’s influence and the team’s collective maturity have redefined what consistency means in modern cricket. RCB’s success is not just a sporting story but a lesson in resilience. It proves that excellence is built through patience, planning and belief rather than luck. In a league driven by spectacle, Bengaluru’s rise reminds us that true dominance comes from sustained effort and unity of purpose.

Caring for one’s waistline

Your recent editorial on India’s expanding waistline rightly highlights an urgent public health crisis. Yet beyond urban lifestyles and the pandemic, food inflation has made nutritious diets unaffordable, pushing families toward ultra-processed foods.

Real solutions must include subsidizing pulses, fruits, and millets, curbing junk food ads, and mandating physical activity in schools and workplaces. Primary health centres also need trained staff for counselling, not just screening tools.

TG is a model for sustainable development

Apropos “A new chapter added to Telangana’s education reforms” (THI June 2). Telangana’s initiative to provide breakfast and lunch in junior colleges represents a visionary step toward linking welfare with educational empowerment. By addressing nutrition and attendance together, the state recognises that learning thrives only when basic needs are met.

This reform strengthens the foundation of human capital and ensures that opportunity is not limited by circumstance. Beyond its immediate benefits, the policy signals a shift toward inclusive growth. Education reforms must integrate health, infrastructure and skill development to prepare youth for a competitive future. Telangana’s approach shows how welfare can evolve into a strategic investment in productivity and dignity, setting a model for sustainable development across India.

Police should have allowed Pk’s meeting

The denial of permission by the Telangana state police to the Jana Sena Party chief Pawan Kalyan for holding a meeting in Hyderabad is politically motivated by the rulers of the state. It is surprising as to how several meetings are being conducted by the ruling party throughout Telangana these days involving lakhs of people.

They all enjoy police permission, while police permission for a meeting of around 2000 Sena members is rejected as the police fear ‘huge tension’ and lawlessness. Mere quoting of an issue with a veteran journalist cannot be put under so much of zoom, more so by the police as a cause for refusal.

BJP dealt Annamalai shocker

It’s shocking that Annamalai, an ex-IPS officer and former BJP state president, who was totally sidelined and did not even contest in the recent elections, is now starting a new political party in Tamil Nadu (THI June 2).

This comes hardly a month after Vijay took over the reins with TVK just last month and shook the hold of the two Dravidian parties, deepening the mystery. It could point to a larger BJP game plan involving the top leadership. Yet with the next Assembly elections not due until 2031, much can still change before then.
