Davanagere: Political temperatures are rising in Davanagere district as speculation over cabinet expansion and ministerial appointments has triggered competing demands from Congress leaders and their supporters. The latest controversy revolves around senior Congress leader and MLA Zameer Ahmed Khan, whose exclusion from the first phase of cabinet formation has sparked protests among sections of the minority community.

Supporters of Zameer Ahmed staged demonstrations demanding that he be inducted into the state cabinet, arguing that the veteran leader enjoys support cutting across communities and has played a significant role in strengthening the Congress in Karnataka. Protesters warned that failure to accommodate him in the ministry could have political repercussions in future elections.

The issue comes amid lingering tensions following the Davanagere South Assembly by-election, where the Congress decision to field Samarth Shamanur reportedly created discontent among certain minority leaders. Allegations of anti-party activities surfaced during the campaign, prompting intervention from the party high command.

Adding fuel to the controversy, an audio clip allegedly involving Congress leader Mohammed Siraj has gone viral on social media. Party insiders claim the development may have affected Zameer Ahmed’s prospects during the first round of cabinet formation. However, no official confirmation has been made regarding the authenticity or political impact of the audio.

Meanwhile, KPCC General Secretary D. Basavaraj has reportedly written to senior Congress leaders, including party president Mallikarjun Kharge, seeking action against those accused of working against party interests. He has also demanded a forensic examination of the viral audio.

As the cabinet expansion process continues, supporters remain hopeful that Zameer Ahmed will be accommodated in the next phase, keeping the political spotlight firmly on Davanagere.
