CITU demands fitness checks of school buses

AIRTWF-CITU urges the Transport Department in Khammam to conduct strict safety inspections for school and private buses to ensure student passenger safety.
Khammam: Leaders of the All India Road Transport Workers Federation (AIRTWF-CITU) have urged the Transport Department to conduct comprehensive fitness inspections of all school and private buses operating in the district and issue fitness certificates only to vehicles complying with prescribed safety standards.
A delegation led by AIRTWF-CITU Khammam district president Y Vikram and secretary Jilla Upender submitted a memorandum to District Transport Officer JN Srinivas at the RTO office on Tuesday. The union leaders stressed the need for a special inspection drive to ensure the safety of students and the general public.
They requested the authorities to thoroughly examine critical safety components, including brakes, tyres, emergency exits, first-aid boxes, fire extinguishers, insurance documents, permits and other mandatory safety requirements before granting fitness certification.
The leaders said preventive measures were essential to avoid accidents and ensure safe transportation services across the district. They emphasized that strict enforcement of safety norms would help protect passengers, particularly schoolchildren who rely on buses for daily travel.
