Hyderabad: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD)’s seasonal outlook for Telangana states that the State is not expected to experience a uniform rainfall pattern.
Telangana’s central districts show normal to above-normal rainfall probabilities, whereas northern and southern districts exhibit below-normal tendencies. Overall, in Telangana state there will be normal to near normal rainfall conditions during the monsoon season ahead.
In its outlook for June 2026, the IMD has said, particularly in the monsoon onset phase, Telangana is likely to experience favourable rainfall activity with a higher probability of normal to above-normal rainfall over several parts of the State. However, during the subsequent peak monsoon months of July and August, greater uncertainty in rainfall distribution is expected.
According to the officials, there is an increased likelihood of rainfall occurring in the form of intense downpours and short-duration heavy rainfall events. Such events may result in higher surface runoff rather than effective water storage, groundwater recharge, or soil moisture retention. In addition, one or two prolonged dry spells may occur between active rainfall episodes, leading to significant temporal variability in rainfall distribution.
