Hyderabad: A 1,000-foot-long historic wing of Hyderabad iconic Purani Haveli has been restored, with the Mukarram Jah Trust for Education and Learning set to begin conservation work on the palace Sixth Mahal.

The restoration forms part of ongoing heritage conservation efforts by MJTEL to preserve the historic complex while utilizing its architectural spaces for educational purposes. The late Mukarram Jah Bahadur originally donated the palace complex to establish educational trusts.

The restored Asaf Jahi wing, which hosted the 39th Founder Day programme of Mukarram Jah School, stretches nearly 1,000 feet and is recognized by the trust as possibly the longest wing of any educational institution in India. Speaking at the event, MJTEL Trustee Nawab MA Faiz Khan stated that restoration of the Asaf Jahi wing was substantially complete, with only minor finishing touches remaining.

He added that rehabilitation of the Sixth Mahal will commence shortly and complete by next year, enabling the school to expand its student intake. Khan encouraged students to make optimal educational use of the historic ruler legacy. Purani Haveli, formerly the official residence of the Sixth Nizam Mir Mahboob Ali Khan, ranks among Hyderabad most prominent heritage landmarks. The palace complex also houses the Nizam Museum, which features a massive wooden wardrobe regarded as the longest in the world.

The Founder Day gathering included tributes to late Eighth Nizam Mukarram Jah Bahadur, attended by trustees, school management, faculty members, and students.
